I am a medical assistant and an receptionist last night I took my end of the day and start up cash bags home with me. I was about half way home when I realized it and called in to let them know what I had done and I would bring it in in the morning. This afternoon I was called into my managers office and told that the compliance office was looking into it as I had made a hippa violation ( see the end of the day cash bag also contains a summary report of who/ how much the co-payments were) I brought the bags in the next morning completely sealed just like when I left am I really in violation? When nothing was disclosed.

Your employer doesn't know you didn't look, reseal, whatever they think you did.
If HR said you were in violation, I would assume they are right. They will argue it's a violation; you will argue it is not. However, I do see why they are nervous.
I don't understand how you took cash bags and anything else home by mistake -
?
Just for future reference, it's HIPAA, not HIPPA.

It really doesn't matter at this point since many employees can be terminated without cause. If they feel you violated HIPAA or stole money and then returned it or whatever you can be terminated, demoted or have your pay grade changed. HIPAA has been around for some time but you violated the 2004 Privacy Rule.
