I have a 97 f 250 7.3 liter diesel. When I start the engine the motor runs rough. The RPMs flucuates. When I rev the motor to 1000 rpms the motor runs normal and the idle smooths out. If I don't rev the engine the motor will stall out. The check engine light dose not turn on. There is no hesitation during operation and I have plenty of power. Can someone help me with this problem.

Ensure you have recently changed the oil and filter and that it's filled to the "FULL" line. This affects fuel pressure. I would also change the air and fuel filters, if they have not been replaced in the last 5,000 miles. The link below offers additional troubleshooting steps:

Stuck open or partially stuck open injector. Try running some seafoam through your fuel. That't why when you bring up the idle the motor smooths out, because it needs the extra fuel that the injector is pumping.
