HI - I am new to this site.
I have got a 12 week german shepherd puppy - we have had her for 1 1/2 weeks so far. She is sleeping outside under cover and also has a kennel so is well protected from the weather/wind and this time of year is nice as we are getting into summer. She is still howling at night and I must admit not as much as the first few nights (which obviously is normal). I have grown up with shepherds and all of our shepherds have been part of our family but always slept outside. When she howls I am letting her howl and it's starting at about 5am now.. is that the right thing to do? We had her in our room for a few nights as she was howling most of the night when we first got her but the past 3 nights she has been back outside and I must admit slept longer. My question is when she howls at 5am is it OK to leave her for a bit longer? When I come down and peak at her she is chewing on her bone and running around so I think maybe she can learn to chill out for another hour at least! Thoughts are appreciated.

Of coarse she is going to howl and be upset... she has gone from being with her mother as well as her brothers and sisters to being thrown outside on her own.

I wouldn't advise letting her howl unless you do not have any neighbours... that's a surefire way to get your dog baited.

Any way you can crate her inside?
Most dogs respond very well to crating after training (don't expect them to behave straight away) as they feel secure and safe.
