View Full Version : Honda accord electrical system shut down

Hello guys, I need a little help with my car. I have a 99 accord 6 cyl automatic trans that the electrical system shuts of while I am driving. The tachometer and speedometer go to zero and about all of the lights in the dash board come on, meanwhile the engine doesn't shut off. Also the headlights go dim and even shut off and then after a few minutes everything goes back to normal. What could be the problem? Please help.

. Check the alternator and battery. Begin by removing and fully charging the battery, which many auto parts stores will do for free. Then, read this link to test the charging system:

I suspect the alternator's brushes are worn too far and the slip rings need cleaning. Either rebuild or replace the alternator.

ICM failure is often accompanied by the tachometer becoming erratic, since the BLU wire from the ICM goes to the tach.
