I have a 16.5 hp Craftsman Lawn Tractor (2001)
Worked fine one day.
Next day started fine, engaged and ran about five feet, jerked a few times.
I shut off, checked it out.
It started right up again, but would not engage. No motion forward or reverse.
Sears tech support suggested parking brake stuck.
I should douse 2 dowel pins just front of right rear tire with WD40, pump brake/clutch 20 times and start again (are they pulling my leg).
Started but did not engage.

Suggestions?

Manual transaxle? Sounds like either the belt popped loose. Or yah the parking brake, but that just holds the clutch pulley to keep tension off the belt. Try and get under and look around basically.. belt, pulleys, etc. You'll tell if something's out of place..

I find it hard to believe the parking brake is on, if the clutch brake foot pedal releases? Course you'll hear it if the brake was engaged (trans would grind)

Briggsdude,
You're the dude!
It was indeed the belt.
Thanks!
