I am interested in starting a home based business dealing in vintage and rare guitars, basses and other string instruments. I would like to base it upon the internet. Marketing it, researching my products and selling the items. I don't have a boat load of money to get this off the ground and I know eBay is a great avenue as far as finding and selling but it is so over used. Does anyone have any advice on where to advertise for free and keeping it toward the music spectrum of intelligent life. Also other sites where auctions are. I was wondering if any one knows sites that deal in just instruments. I would like to centralize as much as possible to get the most attention. I could car less right now about making money with this. I just need something to take me away from this mindless and mundane life. I am pretty sure in the near future I can turn a good profit from it.

Hi, clc61a!

I can show you how to develop and advertise for such a business. Do you go to auctions very much?

Thanks!

Vintage instruments are an often large investment. You're going to need quite a bit of capital to amass an impressive collection. At any rate, you should check out some of these websites as they are good examples of successful vintage guitar dealers:
Welcome to GuitarsJapan.com (http://guitarsjapan.com/)
Guitarjunky.ca (http://guitarjunky.ca/spip_en.php)
You can even email the people who run the stores -- very warm personable people in my experience.
