I am getting bids on central air and heat, nonurgent. It is amazing to me how reputable dealers can differ so much on what they are telling me. We are in zone 11. The Trane guy recommends 4 Ton 14 SEER unit. Won't qualify for tax credit, but he showed me how long it would take to get the 1500 back. The Amana guy wants 12k. I have a previous relationship and I am getting a 15% discount. Trane guy criticizes Amana parts delivery. Says they don't use Amana because customers get steamed, literally waitng for parts from Korea. Amana guy has good reputation. Haven't spoken to him yet about the parts issue. Trane guy recommends 14 SEER and showed me the energy star stats on zone 22 usage and the difference between 14 and 16 SEER in savings and how long it would take to make it up. Another guy has come in with a 5 ton recommendation, but he is the odd ball. Any advice on this issue. Trane 14 as opposed to Amana 16. Realize 14 won't qualify for tax credit. Thanks in advance.
