Why does my temp gauge flucuate all over the place?

Try replacing the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Gauge Sending Unit. Apply liquid gasket to the threads. If you have not changed the coolant every 3 years, corrosion may have developed on the sending unit. If the problem persists, the gauge itself needs servicing/replacing.
