Hello... I own a 98 ford ranger that is having problems starting. In the morning when I get ready to go to work the truck will turn over but will not start. However, the remainder of the day when you try to start the truck it will start up fine. In the mornings I jump start it and it starts without hesitation. The lights and everything work as normal before the jump, that is why I doubt it is the battery. It was starting most mornings until this week without the jump. It only was happening once a week. It is getting chilly now in VA in the mornings, that is about the only change. What do you think the problem could be?

. Remove and fully charge or replace the battery. Most auto parts stores will test and charge batteries for free. Here are some tests you can perform yourself:

Cooler weather is a good test for batteries--your's has failed.

. Switch to 5W-30 full-synthetic engine oil. Engines start easier, last longer, and get better gas mileage with synthetics. Additionally, synthetics are easier on batteries and starter motors.

When was the last tune-up?
