I would like to open my own bookstore and I need to know how to get started. How do I research a name for my bookstore so that I can copyright it/and do I need to do that.

Hi, mammahomedoc!

New books? Old books? A combination of both? What exactly are you talking about here, please?

Thanks!

I want to open a store that caters to new publishers or self publishing writers

Hi again, mammahomedoc!

Your local city hall should be able to tell you what permits and licenses that you might need. So, I would suggest going to them for the information. Possible requirements will vary, depending on the city.

What is the name that you're thinking of for your store, please?

Thanks!

Novice Novels, I also want to carry required reading for academics and a few other ideas.

Hi again, mammahomedoc!

Do you mean required reading for students at the college and/or university level? Also, do you have a site already in mind for your bookstore?

Thanks!

Hi Clough,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, Sick with broncitis. I would like to start with High School and Community Colleges first then see what happens. I haven't really looked for a place yet, but I want to be in a location that would have the least amount of competition with the larger book sellers in the area such as Borders and Barnes and Nobles.

Hello mamma:

You need a written business plan. You can get software that's help. I like Business Plan Pro. It'll cost about $50.

It'll take you step by step through the research part of your plan, just like you mentioned to Clough above. It makes it easy, really.
