I am in the process of filing for bankruptcy but have been holding off because I am in the "trial period" part of trying to get my loan modified on my mortgage. I just received a summns from a credit card company and my lawyer is charging me $200.00 in addition to the money I am paying for the bankruptcy to help me with this. Is it worth the $200.00 or is this something I can take care of myself?

Have you personally called the credit card company in order to try to negotiate with them? I've don't that a number of times now. The results have been good! I also make sure that I have a friend on the other line as a witness and inform the person with whom I'm speaking that there is another person on the line and have the other person say something to confirm that.
