Should I be worried about the exhaust from a new high efficiency furnace -the exhaust/vent pipe? I have heard it could be harmful to a objects close to it-like a car or plants?

There are 4.5 million or more new style units installed in the USA with no real problem. So what is the problem you are talking about? Did someone install the discharge line from your furnace over your flower bed or what?

I was told by 2 different HVAC installers that the exhaust from external exhaust pipe releases chemicals that could damage your cars paint if you park your car next to the pipe on a regular basis.

I guess anything is possible but If I were you I would read the install manual for your furnace. Whenever we have installed a exhaust pipe we always install a 90 degree elbo or tee on the end to aim the exhaust down to prevent those kind of problems.

You are being fed a load of bs. Unless the vent is exhausting directly onto your car, and your car would have to be pretty darn close to vent(say within a few feet). I have never heard of this being a problem(that may be because I follow the venting instructions.) Now, if your vent is terminated in a carport, or in your garage, then you have incorrect venting, and yes I would worry about it. Please give us some more detail about your situation.

We also turn a 90 down on all installs.
