I received an email from Chery's daughter, Jamie this morning. Chery is in the hospital, she has broken her hip. She will be operated on tomorrow. She is presently receiving blood transfusions. This is all the information that I have presently.
I would like everyone that knows and loves her and those that don't yet to please offer your prayers for this long time AMHD member, a great lady and our dear friend.
Get better Chery!

Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear that.
Unfortunately I have not had the honor of Meeting Chery.
I have read a few of her older posts while browsing the forum and can tell she is a sweet, caring lady.
I wish her a speedy recovery, sounds like the last thing she needs with her other troubles.

This is an update from Jamie, Chery's daughter that I received a few minutes ago:
Hi Lloyd&Marta,
Mom made it out of surgery, the next few days are the critical part. She'll be able to stand and walk with the new hip. Excuse me but I'm very tired and I need to put Alex to bed. I'll keep sending updates until she's home and doing better."
Take care,

Hey, Stringer!
Putting a card together and sending it sounds like a great idea! I think that I know of a way so that anyone here can even put their real signature on it, if that's what they might want to do.
Even sending flowers or a plant would be a good gesture, too! But, I do think that it would be easier to coordinate the effort and pay for something like a card.
Thanks!

I check on Larry daily and check her mail, plus I'll be their more often getting the apartment cleaned and renovated before she comes home. She is still in ICU but was able to talk a little."

Ok see if you guys like this plan.
I have Chery's address so Marta and I will buy Chery a very nice 'Precious Moments' sculpture, something about 6" to 9: tall, something beautiful, saying 'We love you." Along with a very nice get well card and ship everything right away.
She is scheduled to be released from the hospital in about 10 to 11 days and Jamie suggested that we send it to her (Chery) home. And I know that it will take at least 6 - 8 days to arrive in Germany.
If you would like your name on the card please list your name in this thread and I will add it to the card for Chery.
Time is of the essence and this seems to make sense and is a lot easier....
Please let me know and put your name here. I would like to get it in the mail by this weekend.
I could also make some kind of arrangement/s to have flowers delivered to her home in addition to the present and card.

One more...
I realize that my signature looks a bit dorky because I was using my mouse to write it. I'm sure that others can come up with better ideas...
What could possibly be on the signatures would be the actual signature and then a.k.a, Stringer, Clough, jrebel etc.
If people still would like to remain anonymous, like not be so revealing on this thread, they could put their signature on an attached document that wouldn't be visible when people do searches for things on the Internet.
We only live once and only have so much time... and this is a chance to make one of our sisters feel good! :)
Best to grab the opportunities while we have them!

I'm trying to put my signature into a Word document to attach to a post here, as an example.
Am treading on thin ice, because this isn't my computer but the property of the owner of the home where I'm house and dog sitting.
We really can put things together, it just depends on what, when and how people are going to submit things.
Signatures, words, sentences of get well, images, etc. are things that people might want to submit.
I will be more than happy to put something together with the submissions, but people do need to get them to me, via posting them on or attaching them to this thread, pronto!

Hey, that's nicely done KUXJ! :)Thanks Unky. I notice though, the older I get, the shakier my handwriting gets. I have 2 score, and 1year on you :)
FYI, and instructions for anyone else...
If you have a scanner, write what you want, scan it, save to "my pictures"
If you have a digital camera take a pix of it, download to "my pictures"
I used picasa3 to warm it up, and apply the fade effect, but any image program could do the same.
Then I used XnView to re-size to 320x240, so it wouldn't be a burden to Stringer or Clough when they went to work with it. It went from 39k to 5k when I re-sized it. Again, any image program that can re-size will work.
that reminds me....( memory kinda goes too) I'm going back to add the pix info

I am not that computer literate as I have said many times. I would be content to purchase a very nice 'get well' card and write each person's name in that card along with the gift for Chery. But I have to admit that there are some great ideas in my thread... I am impressed.
So, if someone will take all the names that were posted here and can do something with them with a program and post it, I would be delighted to print that out and enclose it in the card to Chery.
Also, Clough, your idea of printing out this thread and sending it to Chery might also be a great idea (possibly in addition to the signatures/names) . Chery would be able to see first hand what has been expressed by our members and her friends.
Whatca think?

I want to thank everyone for posting your name/s to the card that Firm is so graciously putting together for Chery. And for everyone's input and great suggestions.
The important thing is that Chery gets this when she arrives home from the hospital which is in Germany.
So timing is important, I'll wait until this Monday morning to ship the gift, flowers and the card so if anyone else would like to list their name you will have tonight through Sunday night to do so, please do.
Knowing Chery, this will blow her away and it will make her very happy that she has so many friends that truly care about her.
Bless you all.

Sep 29, 2009, 02:59 PM
I have to admit something, something I told Chery long ago.
When she stopped coming to AMHD she would email me regularly. Often times I'd read the email and not respond. I was trying to distance myself.
She reminds me so much of my mom. The fact that she has cancer to boot, it hit too close to home. I didn't want to let her in because I knew I'd lose her, I was too afraid.
I wrote her a long email about it. True to Chery nature, she understood, sent me her strength, her love, everything that she has in her. It should have been the other way around, but she held me up, even though she's the one that's falling.
I love her, plain and simple. She's a wonderful lady. It's true, the good ones always have the worst time of it. At least I know I'll live a long time, I'm nowhere near good. ;)
Please Stringer, or J, since you're in contact with Jaime, tell her how much her mother means to me, to all of us. She is a bright start, the cream of the crop.
Darnit, tears, again. Will this ever end?

I'll tell Jaime Alty, don't you worry.
Cher and I got to talking one day and found that she has "roots" where my husband was from in Kentucky, after that, we just bonded like mother and daughter.
She would not read her email from strangers unless it had a certain word in the subject line, then she knew it was from a friend.
Do not cry Alty, you know Chery wouldn't want that. She'd get mad at you for blubbering.

She just has that mom gene, mom to all, and a great one at that. Jaime is both lucky and unlucky, because losing Chery will be so hard. This I know, sadly, first hand.
I hope Jaime decides to join AMHD, I think she'll need the support.
Thanks J, you made me smile. :)

Glad I made you smile Alty. My SIL went to germany a few years ago, sadly I had not yet met Chery or I would have had them get together. They would have had a fabulous time.

Well Germany is where I was born, where my mom was raised from birth and my dad since the war. He was born in Hungary. :)
The fact that Chery is in Germany makes her that much more like my mom. My mom actually died in Germany, three days after we arrived for a visit.
Okay, what's wrong with me? This thread isn't about me, sorry everyone. :(

I received an email this morning about 4:30 AM from her, Chery has pneumonia. Please put her in all our prayers.
Hi Lloyd,

Its strange that this site brings people together in the way it does...
Its being a very short time since starby died, and now chery is struggling, although I did not know these women, its amazing the feeling of warmth that they have brought to the people who did know them here...
My thoughts are with chery and her family and also the good friends she made here.

Don't worry Alty, I understand, and please, don't feel guilty of posting here. I'm sure Stringer too will understand :)
Hugs everyone! :)
Yup Red, it's been some time I've been knowing Starby and Chery too... Starby passed away a while ago about a month now... Chery's been fighting for a long time... but I feel like it's been years that we know each other.

Below is an email that I sent to Jamie in response to her email saying that Chery has pneumonia, then her response:
"Thank you Jamie,"
"So sorry hearing that Chery has pneumonia. Chery is indeed fortunate to have a caring daughter as you are,
We mailed a little gift and card to Chery's home yesterday via US Mail, please keep an eye out for it. She may enjoy it.
The last thing in the world that I want is to bother you, sorry I was just getting a little worried. Please keep me updated when you can.
Bless you,"
Lloyd & Marta
Jamie's response:
"Hi Lloyd & Marta,"
"No, don't be sorry! It's truly a blessing for Mom that she has such caring and loving friends.
I'll be on the look-out for the gift and card."
Take care,
Jaime & Alex
I am in the process of sending flowers from all of us also...

Update: I received this, this morning from Jamie:
Hi Lloyd,
"I do believe we are 6-8 hrs ahead. No special hours on calling she's in her room day and night. I got the package and brought it to her already, thank you. She has the angel sitting on a shelf in her room and absolutely loves it."
Talk to you later.
Jaime
I want to thank everyone for everything that you have done and all your love and concern for Chery. I am sure that she has a tear of joy in her eye.
I will try to post a picture of the 'angel' that was sent later today or tomorrow as I have a very busy day today. The picture actually does not do justice to the angel, it was beautiful as was the card with everyone's name and our wish for her to get well.
Jamie gave me the phone number for Chery while she is in the hospital, I will try to call later today. And I will send all your love and best wishes. I'll let you all know. After I talk with her, I will ask if I can give the number to anyone else. I am concerned with her energy levels.
Thank you again Firm.

You've seen 'em Stringer... You just didn't realize it. ;)
DISH GARDEN - This arrangement is most seen in florists. Many plants grown together to be used indoors for a focal point of greenery.
If there are any flowers, they're always of the cut variety, and placed in the arraignment.
European Dish Garden
This is very much like creating a planted container, except all the plants remain in their own containers.
They are quick, interchangeable, seasonal, and easy to make. And, they perk up anyone's day.
Step one: Select a shallow saucer about three inches in depth and about 12 - 14 inches in diameter. Step two: Sprinkle a little charcoal on the bottom. This keeps the soil, water, and materials from getting sour. Step three: Decide on three to four green foliage plants with the same light and watering requirements. All in about 3 - 4 inch pots. Some trailing, some full. Step four: Arrange the plants to show contrast. Step five: Add some blooming plants in four inch pots or fresh cut stems in water vials. Pack with sphagnum moss. Keep moss moist. Step six: For interest, add natural gravel or a colorful side bow.
European dish gardens are meant to be bright and colorful. They can be kept fresh by merely changing the cut flowers or changing out the blooming pots.

"As soon as the special bed and mattress is delivered and the other things (chair and table) then she can come home. It could be in a week or two. She has pain in her left shoulder and the doc's are trying everything in order to prevent it from breaking, too."
