I was driving my 2000 Ford Taurus when all of a sudden the car seemed to have shifted seamlessly into neutral as the car RPM just revved while the car began to coast into the breakdown lane. There was no noise. I towed it back to my house. When I shifted into any gear the car would just sit there. The engine sounded just fine but it would not move. The fluid level was fine and it did not smell burnt. When I got it home I checked to make sure the linkage was fine and it was. I dropped the pan on the transmission and the fluid looked perfect. There was no shavings in the fluid. It feels as if the problem is electrical but I am not sure. Any ideas?

Did you check the valve body components in the transmission. A transmission shop usually has to do it because the transmission has to be taken out of the car. Good luck

Someone with a scan tool can check and see what the MLP (Manual lever position) sensor is telling the PCM. This is an electrical part that tells the PCM what gear you have shifted into (PRNDL1) If the PCM thinks its in neutral, that may be your problem.
