I was just riding down the interstate and my headlights started to dim. The instrument panel was also dimming as if the battery was dying. The seatbelt light started blinking and the tach started jumping erratically. Whithin 5 miles the engine shut off. When I stopped to inspect the vehicle, only one headlight was barely lit up. They were both functional prior to this incident. When the key was turned to start the only reaction was clicks from the starter and worsening of the dim light. The battery was dead and is now on the charger. Who all votes for the alternator?:)

Sounds like the alternator's brushes have worn down too much. Try replacing the brushes and cleaning the rotor slip rings:

On your alternator, you may luck out and be able to replace the brushes externally--I just don't know. Afterwards, you should be good to go.
