Replacing a thermostat, simple right?, WRONG. Many facters to consider here. What color wires are hooked to what leads on furnace. Is it one continuous set of wires from stat to furnace, or have wires been spliced to different colors between stat and furnace. Is new thermostat compatible with furnace. It seems every body thinks changing a stat is a straight forward easy to do job(which it is for a pro), but there are many thing to check. Only time replacing a stat is easy for a diy, is when you are replacing the old stat with the same stat, then you just have to mark the wires as you unhook them and hook them back up the way they were.

There is a small chance we will be able to help you. Let us know the make and model of furnace, also is it electric, gas, hot water, heat pump,, then we will need to know exactly what color stat wires hook to what terminals in the furnace. Then we need to know if wires are spliced anywhere between furnace and stat. Then we need to know where the stat wires hooked to the old stat, and then we need to know what terminals the new stat has. Also any unused wires. And, are you posative the new stat is compatible with your heating system. And its as easy as that. Good luck and please let us know how things work out.
