Hi all,

My question is: Can I, as an resident alien with F1 student Visa, establish a sole proprietorship to export electronics from the USA?

If I can,

What forms should I fill out?

Where could I get the required forms and to which department should I apply for establishing this kind of business entity.

If you supplied me with required general information about that, I would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hello S:

I don't know about your tax status, so I don't know if you LEGALLY can work in the US.. But, a sole proprietorship is nothing more than an individual. There's no forms to fill out, and there's no permission you need to get... You just DECLARE that you are a business, and you are. You can put any name on your letterheads and your checks as you choose.

Your declaration to the government comes when you fill out a schedule C on your tax return. That's it.

Thanks, Excon,

I am a Graduate student and I have got social security number and next year I am going to begin to pay my taxes as I am also working as a GA (Graduate Assistant). Still, I am on a
F1 student visa as a resident alien.

Maybe this information helps you to let me know if I can establish a sole proprietorship and do business.

Thank you.

Hello again, S:

I know nothing about immigration laws. I only know business stuff.
