Do you have recovery discs that came with the laptop?
Here is link with audio driver
Select software and drivers HP Pavilion zv6000 Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=453185&lang=en)
It has other drivers as well but need more info on exactly what you need to do as far as just to get sound to work and wireless?
Are you able to restore back to factory settings?
-is this an option
Here is the link with all info on that model laptop, see what you can find here and go from here of what you need or want to do, will help if possible

If I am understanding this correctly it sounds like your friend preformed a wipe and reload where as he deleted everything from your hard drive and reinstalled XP to resolve some underlying issue you felt you were having with the computer. If this is the case then I am willing to bet that he did not get the correct hardware drivers from the HP website before starting the process.
To verify that this is the correct assumption we will need to preform a few quick steps.
Left click the Start button
Right click "My Computer"
Left click "Properties"
Left click the tab up top labeled "Hardware"
Left click "Device Manager"
In the device manager you will see a list of hardware devices such as Display adapter, Disk Drives, MODEMS, Network Adapters etc... In that list look to see if you have anything listed as "Other Devices or Unknown Device", the icon for that will be a yellow question mark with a black exclamation mark. This indicates that you do not have the correct drivers installed and you will need to correct the problem.
There are several ways to resolve this. You can try the Microsoft updates although I find it causes more problems than it resolves. You can get your original recovery disk that came with the computer and reinstall that or you can go to the HP website, download all the drivers for your laptop and install them. Here is a link to the HP driver site for your notebook.

From the above website you should see a file labeled "Conexant AC-Link Audio Driver".
Left click Conexant AC-Link Audio Driver
Left click sp29873.exe, (1/1 , 945.01k)
Left click "Run"
The install should start, just keep clicking run, next, accept or whatever to complete the install and then restart the computer.
Follow the same steps for your wireless driver and you should be set.
Lastly, if I understood your question incorrectly please let me know and I will be happy to help.
Thank you
Eric
