WE purchased a Noma programmable thermostat yesterday and are severally frustrated. Hook up was easy but when we connect it the room temperature will not display it reads "HI". Can anyone tell us what we are doing wrong??

It is a two wire system with only a red and white wire. The red is connected to RH with the jumper in place and the white to the W.

Because it will not read the room temperature the furnace does not come on.

Help.

Is this manual for your stat? It shows the same model number near the end. I looked at this and cannot find anything that shows it indicating "HI" as in high.

Check the batteries, try doing the Hard Reset. Let us know if that did not do it.

Possible the stat is defective.

Yes, that is the manual for the stat. We have checked the batteries and done a hard reset several times. Even changed the batteries and does not seems to work just keeps reading "Hi" in the spot where it should show current room temperature.

If it was defective would it actually let you program it? I can go in and program all four programs and the time, etc.

If you bought it locally, I would take it back and talk to them. They should either take it back, or explain how to make it work. If you bought it on line, look for a tech service number.

Probably the 2 leads of the temperature sensor (probably blue colour) sticking out at the bottom back of thermostat(when you removed it from wall) is shorted together. Gently separating the 2 leads should make it work.

When using a two wire hook-up from the furnace the power supply ( usually red ) is connected to the RH terminal. Remove the jumper plate from the RH to RC unless you have two supply wires from the furnace. One being for heat (RC) and the other for A/C (RC). If that's the case then you have a three wire or more set-up. The feed back signal wire from the thermostat is connected to the W terminal and is usually white. So basically you have a power supply wire (red or black) and a return signal wire (white)
