My daughter received a summons for a credit card dept she owed. She called the company and talked to them on how to resolve the dept. They gave her 3 options, two of which were impossible for her to do (did not make enough money to pay the amt they wanted) or a reduced fixed amount and it would be paid. I (mother) agreed that I would pay for her and she pays me so much each payperiod (a amount she can afford. Now she is getting phone calls again from this agency saying she owes on another card and she asked for validation of this debt, which they say they will not provide. I am concerned now as the only payment they would accept was a check over the phone, which I provided with my account information. It has not cleared yet and now I am concerned they could add to the amount of the check that was agreed upon with the collection agency. I have been reading posts on the collection agency and now I am finding out they can be very underhanded. Did I make a big mistake in providing the check info and can they legally change the amount we agreed on?

I would contact my bank and stop payment, freeze them out, until you have a written agreement.

Do not ever give them check over the phone, in fact don't even send them a real check, always pay in money orders. If they refuse that type of payment normally they are crooks.

Also they can't refuse to verify a debt that is a red flag they are also crooks.

Too late, check bank statement today, they put check through today and it was for correct amount at least. But I have learned my lesson, never again.
