Ruckus needs a very large section from both of his back paw pads amputated.
For over a year now he has had a bad crack that will not heal. The tissue is dead and you can actually take about half of his paw pad and turn it inside out the crack is so deep! It does not hurt him what so ever because the tissue is dead, but it is a great place for infection to set in, more nerve damage to occur and its just asking to be hung on something! It is only getting worse and worse.
There is a pretty big risk of infection so he will be on antibiotics and ointments for a long while. He will probably need dog booties for the rest of his life too.
Does anyone know anything about paw pad amputation, how well the dog takes to it, risks involved. Or about good booties that are for everyday wear. I have talked to my vet about it, I just want to see what everyone else thinks!
Thanks for reading!
