Im desperate to see this movie again, but can't remember the title. As I remember, Cary Grant and family buy or rent an old house in the country, but when they drive out there, it is a ramshackle place and I remember he opens the door to the hot water boiler and it is more like a steam engine chugging away. It is a charming, funny, sleepy afternoon movie. But what the heck is it called?

Thanks Ren6, you'd think so wouldn't you, but I've looked at the plotline for 'Mr Blandings' and it does not seem right. Any other idea's gratefully received.

One of my favorites: Houseboat?

Houseboat would have been my guess. But then how could someone forget that Sophia Loren was in it?? ;)

Weird... in the movie, Grant buys a decrepit old house in the country. He has to tear it down and rebuild. I hope you figure out which flick it is! :)

This gives a better description:

Though I agree, how could anyone forget Sophia? :)
Edit to add that the link doesn't seem to like going straight to the page. That's why I didn't use it in the first place. But the search has it.

Correct, Mr Blandings buys an old farmhouse with the intent to rebuild. There is a scene where he gets stuck in a utility closet, but that's in the rebuilt house. There is no scene like the one described about a boiler room. I don't believe such a scene is in Houseboat either, but its certainly closer.

Thanks all, am going to watch 'Houseboat' and 'Mr B' to check it out. I just wish I could buy extra memory capacity for my brain.
