I would like to know (even though this maybe a dumb question) is that any refrigerant compressors out there that can run on a 24 volt motor ? If so where can I buy one ? Also does any one know where I can get one custom made if at all possible.

No, I do not believe there are any refrigerant compressors that will work off 24v. You may be thinking of coolers that plug into your car lighter socket, but they are not run off a compressor.

Can you tell us what you are wanting this for. Im guessing a camper of some sort.

Custom built compressor that only uses 24v, not possible.

Please give us a little insite as to what you are trying to achieve, and we will try to give you some good (realistic) options.

To be honest I am building it for camping, I want to build one because the last time I went camping I was swaeting all over the place. For the sake of asking how come a 24 volt compressor won't work

Sorry for the double post but I forgot to ask what is the minimum volts a refrigerant compressor will work at beside 115-120 volts?

230-240,, although that's not a minimum as you was asking.

If there was such a compressor what would you power it with/where are you getting the 24 volts of power you want to run off? If I may ask?

Well I am planning to use a 24 volt power supply unit ro run the compressor thought the refrigerant compressor I am basically thinking about is one from a 1.5 or 2.7L refridge

You got it, 110v is the lowest voltage an ac compressor will run off. I assume you are going to be camping where there is no power supply available. Your only real option for ac in the woods is,, a gas powered generator(make sure its of a high enough wattage to run the ac unit)

The reason there is no such thing as a 24v air conditioner,, simple answer,, it takes more energy to run the mechanical parts of an ac system than 24v can supply.

Sorry man , Im in the same spot, have a camper, no generator, and want ac. Just going to have to save up for a good generator, and either window or roof camper ac.

Even the fridge you speak of is 110v minimum. Not to mention that the compressor from this fridge will not cool your camper at all. Its made for a small fridge that is well sealed and insolated. I don't want to keep you from experimenting, but I hate to see you waste your efforts.

Cool thanks for the answer... that does suck about the 24 volt..

Closest you going to get is a gas refrigerator and leave the door open

Good call wmproop, but I would add that this will be a total waste of propane, as it takes many many hours just to get the fridge itself cold. The fridge does not have enough BTU to cool a space any larger then the fridge itself. It just doesn't work(ive tried it).

My suggestion(and what I do), bring a lot of coolers, with a lot of cold beer, and a lot of ice. When you get hot, get a cold beer, then dunk your head in the cooler of ice. If it's a real hot day, you will drink enough beer, and dunk your head enough times, to where you will sleep very well.(pass out)
