Start with walking for 30 minutes four times a week. After about 2 weeks you will feel more energy, and will most likely want to increase the length of your walks or the number of times per week. As you slim down, you will also find that you want to try other things. Find something that is fun for you. As far as diet, you want a good balance that includes fruits and vegetables, meats and carbs. A healthy way to eat is to have half your plate full of vegetables. Most importantly you need variety and a meal plan that you can stick with for the long run. Too many people make the mistake of cutting calories too drastically. You can't stick with that and you'll give up too soon. Drink lots of water - at least 8 cups a day. Cut out fast food. Eat mostly fish and chicken. The rule of thumb is that a proper portion size is the size of your palm. Make sure to take a multi-vitamin daily. Have healthy snacks - fruit, celery with peanut butter, a small portion of leftovers. You might find that you have a slight headache at first, probably due to ridding your body of sugar. If you can endure that for a few days it will go away.

The secret of losing weight is to loose calories.
I work out on stationary bicycle and burn 900+ calories in 45 minutes.
I have lost 12 kgs in 50 days with cycling and a bit of dieting.
