I had a Harbor Breeze Triton ceiling fan installed today. After the electrician left I tried it and the fan moves very slow, even on high. I let it run a bit and noticed a strange odor like something was getting hot and melting or something. The fan was also not moving any faster. I turned off the fan and noticed it was hot. The fan is not wobbling or knocking, no funny noises. The fan turns freely and glides smoothly to a stop when off. Please help...

The fan could possibly be defective. If it is brand new it could have a defective motor. I doubt the electrician hooked it up wrong. If this is a brand new fan, box it up and take back to the store and get another one. If you have the same electrician come back have him check your wiring in the electrical box where the fan is located to be sure it tests out okay. Would not advise using this fan at all. Get another fan. The fan is not going to magically get better on it's own.

It could be a defective fan or the electrician could have hooked it up wrong.
How is it controlled?
