I have a 96 honda civic 1.6 ils. The engine was over heating but when I take it out of gear and bring the revs up to about 4500 for a few secs it quockly cools back to normal. Then it cut out when I slowed down and will not even turn over now. I took the spark plugs out and two of them were coverd in oil. I checked the timing belt and it was fine. Any ideas.

Overheating likely warped the aluminum head and blew the head gasket. Have head checked for warpage and valves examined for damage. Repairs could run around $2,500, if this is the situation.

Have the car towed for repairs. Afterwards, you likely need to replace the radiator. Minerals from tap water have likely formed phosphate scale, which is blocking the passages in the radiator. Replace the coolant with a 50/50 mixture of Dex-Cool antifreeze and distilled water, after flushing the system with distilled water.
