Hello,

After having my accident I took my car to a dealership and specifically told them not to paint the car. They painted the fender and against my wishes and did a terrible job. There is primer visible, additional scratched when they installed ithe fender, drips in the paint, and a large bubble. They took the charge off for the paint job but forced me to pay the remaining amount before I left on Friday after 5 pm before the holiday weekend.

My question is since the paint is not the same as the factory finish and will not last as long have they devalued my car, and what recourse do I have. The car is worth about 25,000 now. When I ask people if they would pay that much for a car that has been painted they say no. So obviously there is a stigma now with the car as it has never been painted before.

I have thought about disputing te charges on my credit card and taking then to small claims court. I would also like to add that that their response when I told them they were not supposed to paint the car was well its done, we can't undo it so you are just going to have to get past it. So I guess you can see why I am hesitate to let these people touch my car again.

Thank you,

I would take the car to a body shop and get an estimate on how much it will cost to fix the damage. Probably best to get two estimates.

Then take the estimates to the dealership and tell them to chose one and you will expect them to pay for it. If they refuse, tell them you will see them in court.

I am curious as to why you took the car to the dealership rather than a body shop. And where was your insurance coverage in this?

Thank you for your response, I took my Hummer to the only dealership in my city that is qualified to do warranty work on hummers. It in a GM mega dealership with a large body shop. They did my mom's escalade and she had no problems. I did not like my insurance's preferred people. So I went with these people. However, I have not signed or cashed the check from insurance and the insurance company is refusing to do anything because it is not their preferred dealer. They are a prefferrred dealer with another company and I did call them. Amazingly enough he was the first person to call me back. Not even the owner of the dealer has called me back and I have a filed a complaint with the BBB.
