I was diagnosed with a herpetic legion on my vagina it was just one at the time very very small and over a few out breaks which seem to happen much more often than not a few more came about so my doctor prescribed Valtrex which I have been taking for the past 3 years because if I do stop the medicine I will have an outbreak every month around my period.. I have healthy children 4 and 14 months and my finance does not have the virus .my question is on my 500mg daily I have a spot where it is irritated and if I look close enough it looks like it can be an outbreak just not able to fully surface.. so do I up my dose of meds and could this std cause my vagina area to become really swollen because at this point I am not sure if it it is a yeast infection or symptoms of a herpes and the 500mg dose is not being enough anymore! Discouraged! ~thanks~

Drea, as a nurse I have to agree with the above posters. We cannot advise on medication issues such as this. Now, remember that Valtrex does not prevent ALL outbreaks and that outbreaks are still possible.

Please make an appt with your doctor on this issue.
