We just bought a house with a 12 year old insinkerator Pro17 we were told worked (past warranty limit). It did work on one go around-- there was not much in the sink at the time.
Now however it will not operate. The red reset button is out. When we push it in and turn on the power switch, the insinkerator makes a humming sound for a few seconds, but does not actually work. Then the reset button pops out again and the humming noise stops.

Thanks

Its jam with something. Find you a short stick like a broom handle. Actually the handle of a plunger works quite well. Stick in disposal and try to turn counter clock wise.

If you can't get it to turn you will have to remove it and remove whatever it is that is jamming it.

How do you remove it?

Look under the sink. You will see a metal locking ring at the top of the disposal. Remove or unhook plumbing. Stick a Phillips screw driver one of the holes in the locking ring and turn clock wise. Support disposal, it will fall down when you turn about 1/8 of a turn.
