My husband was born to a Central American Mother and American Father. In 1954 his family moved to the US. His mother was naturalized in 1958. My husband was 8 years old.

The birth certificate my husband has is for the country he was born in. It states his father was an American Citizen.

How does my husband verify his own citizenship? My understanding of Immigration law is that if one of your parents is american at time of birth you are automatically a citizen, or if your parent is naturalized prior to your 18th birthday. In both parent cases, we assume he is a citizen, but has nothing proving it. Both parents have since passed away, and he wants to apply for a passport.

He has to file N-600 to obtain certificate of naturalization.
