I have a 1995 chevy 3500 6.5 turbo diesel and it starts then dies like 30 seconds later.and there is really thin metal shavings in the fuel filter thinner than aluminum foil.what might be the problem

Purge water from the system, change fuel filter, and change air filter. Check fuel pressure and fuel injector operation.
