Hi,
Can anybody out there helps me finger out what could be wrong with this civic?
Car: 1992 honda civic, 4dr, automatic transmission, 120,000mil. Many parts have been changed over the years (ECU, thansmission, distributor, main relay, fuel pump,. you name it)
Car had been always starting right way. A few days ago, when approaching a stop sign, the car was just dead at stop. When re-started. It started right way. After that it started to have hard time to idle at stops. The car wanted to die at every stop. I had to switch to Neutral and stepped on gas to keep the RPM around 1000-2000rpm to avoid dying. I tried to drive it harder on highway. For the first 40 miles it run like normal. Then the speed drops like something draging the car behind even though I pressed the gas peddle harder. It refuged to speed up (it still run at 50 -60 mph though).
I searched the internet. Some suggested to clean the throttle body. It might be dirty. So I bought a bottle of throttle body cleaning spray (Safe for oxygen sensor and oil injector) and sprayed the throttle body. It IS very dirty. I wiped out a lot of dirt with paper tower.
After that the car just won't even start any more. The starter runs. The engine won't start.
Checked battery, it's good.
Checked distributor, it might be good ( I pulled all four plugs out, having someone to check while I was starting the car. All four plugs sparked. Is that good enough?).
Checked fuel pump, it seems OK
Checked the main relay. I can hear the "click" after 1-2 seconds after you turn the key to "II"" position. It's OK
Where to look for from here. It's very frustrating.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks a lot.
