Does anyone out there know how to improvise a 5000 BTU ac ,(one that goes in a window, traditional type model ),and make it possible to use without putting it in the window (live in a eldrly disibility complex and the landlord won't allow ac in the window the old folks install them and they end up falling out of the windows) it seems like the back part of the ac has to be in the heat ,so if I put the ac completely inside would the cool air from having it on screw up the unit or in anyway become dangerous.the soulution would defintly not be in buying a in house model much to expensive and money is definitely a problem. Thank you for your time

Any time you try to change the factory design characteristics of a unit it usually just spells trouble. The landlord of the complex should make sure the units are installed properly to start with so falling out the window is not a problem. He could even charge a small fee for this service and then everyone would be happy and cool.

As far as your original question is concerned the cost of making the changes would be to much for the old folks to afford.
