I have an 8 yr old male cat that always wants to eat and will sneek over and eat the other cats food as well. The past few weeks he has been chewing on furniture whenever he is hungry to get our attention. He is on a special diet and only allowed a certain amount of food as he is overweight. Only thing I can think of doing is spraying him with a water bottle. Does anyone know why he is chewing on the furniture or what may be wrong with him? Please help I don't want my furniture ruined or my husband wanting to get rid of him because of his behavior.

I have had cats for years and never had a cat do that. I would take him to the vet. He might be missing something in his new diet that he needs. Still a trip to the vet won't hurt. Also try spraying the funrniture that he chews with lavendar they don't like the smell and it smells better than the stuff they sell at the stores to keep animals away from stuff you don't want ruined.
