View Full Version : Hot Water Running Out Quickly

Our hot water seems to be running out more and more quickly. We only get a fraction of a bath full of water or a short shower, when we never used to have a problem.

We have a gas water heater downstairs which feeds the central heating and a hot water tank in the airing cupboard, via a mid-position valve (the CH has been off for the last few months, so don't know if that is affected). The tank in the airing cupboard feels hot at the top and cold at the bottom.

Any ideas about what the problem could be would be much appreciated.

Do you have a water heater or a gas heating boiler that supplies hot water for your baths and showers? Tom

Hi Tom,

I think it's actually what you call a boiler, but I'm unclear on the distinction.

It's a gas-fired unit which heats the water if the thermostat in the tank upstairs is too cold. No water is stored in the heater/boiler itself.

A water heater only heats domestic water for bathing showering and cooking while a gas fired boiler heats your hone with hot water and furnishes hot water for domestic use. Which do you have? Give particulars, like brand name, age, type, etc. Cheers, Tom

Thanks Tom.

It's an Ideal Classic RS30 boiler, approx. 10 years old.
