We have a GE (model #GSH25JSTA SS) side by side that is three years old. The frost keeps building up in the freezer, which then makes the fridge side warm. A tech came out and pulled the back of the freezer off to reveal loads of frost all over the defrost coils. He replaced our main control board because everything else checked out fine. That was pricey. Two weeks later, same story. He came back out and replaced some wires. Two weeks later, same story. The deforst Bi-metal is good and the Defrost metal checks out fine as well. What is wrong with this freezer? Does anyone have any advice or has had a similar problem? Suggestion? Help? Thanks!

In self defrosting refrigerators the possibilities are as follows:
1. Defrost heater faulty.
2. Defrost limit switch faulty.
3. Defrost timer faulty.
There isn't anything else period.
But since yours has a main control board I haven't the faintest clue what could be the problem except those 3 items listed above.
They must be checked out with a multimeter to see if the components are faulty. Keep replacing the circuit board is definitely not the answer.
Have him come back at no cost and check out those items.
Refrigerators are simple appliances in theory but start adding complicated computer boards - oh, well. I like the simple models. They are much easier to fix in the long run.

The same thing is happening to our freezer. We have had it about three years as well. The GE tech told me to fix it he would have to replace the control panel, however because of the cost we do not move forward. Did you ever figure out what was wrong with your freezer?

I am having the problem too! AGAIN! Mine is barely over 1 year old. GE Model #GSH25JFXB BB . Service Company came out and replaced a board inside the freezer compartment by ice maker. (BUT I don't know what is was that he replaced)
It was under warranty at that time, but NOW, 4 months later it is doing the same thing but NOT under warranty!
Ice holder has formed ice, icicles and frost on the bottom of it.

We have had the same problems with our refrigerator Model GSH25JSTA SS (Stainless), main board replaced twice and thermistor replaced. Still doing it. After over $400 in repairs and GE not willing to admit to an inherent problem with this refrigerator, we are getting a new one (NOT GE... never again GE!)

I have had the same problem. I had a service contract and the main board, thermistor, thermostat, fan, and heater have all been replaced. The board has been replaced four times in the 6 or more years I've had this thing! I let my service contract expire and a month later I'm having similar problems. This time the fridge is cold, but the freezer keeps forming frost on the food and especially the ice maker. The bottom of the ice maker looks like a dripping iced over mess. The ice forms into blocks. I had the problem where the water dispensor freezes up and the water stops and the tech put a kit in to heat the water pipe so it doesn't freeze. He had said that if the problem continued they would have to replace the entire freezer door but that never happened. The service was terrible and I had to wait 9 days for service the last two times I called. Luckily it was freezing cold outside and I was able to store everything in coolers on the porch. I let the service expire because they were terrible. At this point I am going to run it till it dies again and then bury it and buy a new fridge but definitely not a GE.
