One of the guys associated with our bunkhouse wiring project says our approach won't pass inspection. Our approach is to use #1 AWG 3-conductor USE aluminum cable with ground run underground in PVC conduit from a disconnect box at the cabin to the bunkhouse 80 feet away. A Cutler Hammer disconnect box (BR2100BRP) containing a 100 amp circuit breaker would be mounted outside the cabin adjacent to the meter. The connection for the two hot lines and the neutral would be made by tapping into the load side of the meter at the cabin and going through the breaker to the underground cable. The connection for the ground wire would be made to the ground bus in the disconnect box which in turn would be connected to a #6 bare copper wire running from the same ground rod, from which the cabin breaker panel gets its ground. The grounds and neutrals in the cabin pane,l which are not now separated, would be separated by adding a ground bus to the cabin panel and moving all the ground wires to the new ground bus.
