I think I have some tips for you! Depending on how "overweight" you are, these might work great for you!
In the beginning, I'd only use the eliptical machine at the gym. I thought if I used the treadmill, I'd fall. So I stayed on the eliptical machine.
I never measured it by time, do it by calories. If you focus on HOW MUCH your burning and what you are putting in (calorie wise), it can really be motivating.
Every other day I'd add a little weightlifting. Most people think that if you weightlift you'll get bulky, but if you only want tone and definition, stick to smaller weights and that's what you'll get (eventually).
Gradually work up your intensity and calories burned. When I say gradually, I don't mean a big change, maybe even 25- 50 calories.
EAT HEALTHY. Breakfast- oatmeal with raisins, cinnamon, (soy)milk & 1/2 tbs brown sugar.
Snack- apple
Lunch- smoothie (if you need more add a LEAN PROTEIN like chicken that has not been fried in fat)
Snack- vegetables
Dinner- normally I grill A BUNCH of vegies and have more chicken (because I don't like seafood, but if you do, I'd recommend that)
STAY MOTIVATED. I like to weigh myself daily, just to see where I'm at. Some people think that weighing yourself a lot is bad, but I think it is motivating to see how much closer you are to your goal.
Currently, I am at a plateau... after losing 30 pounds in 3-4 months. The reason I'm falling back is because of my eating... (I love candy and grahm crackers) :)
Oh and about pushups- I can't do a REAL pushup (and I've been working out for a while), and I stick to modified pushups. Only a FEW.
Hope these help you!

If the serious work outs are not for you,the is a tried and trusted method for losing weight...
Eat healthy and exercise...
Sounds easy!
If you have no underlining medical condition.. start today...
Don't starve yourself.. by that I mean there is no need to go hungry and then binge on whatever is in the fridge..
Drink lots of water.. eat fruit and smaller portions of a main meal..
Don't eat 2 or 3 hours before bedtime, and always eat a breakfast.. it kick starts your body in the morning to burn calories..
Go for a walk,it does not have to be a power walk.. or find an activity you enjoy.. swiimming?
Also,if you have a friend or family member who is also looking to lose weight, you can both motivate each other.
Realise what your vice is.. example, white bread,fries,cake.. whatever it is you don't have to go cold turkey, allow yourself a small potion once a week.. however,in saying that once you change your diet, your body starts to crave to fresh veg.. really!
Good luck.
