Hello everyone... We have a piece of land in thomasburg, ontario and last week, one of my daugthers found this huge spider... I would like to know what kind of spider is that so I can make some research about it.We have 3 children that like to venture on that land.Knowing about it would make me feel a lot better.. I HOPE THAT ONE OF YOU CAN HELP ME WITH THAT... I'M WAITING PATIENTLY FOR AN ANSWER.(AS YOU CAN SEE,I THINK THAT HER BACK WAS FULL OF BABIES AND WHEN MY DAUGHTER PUT IT IN THE CUP,SOME OF THEM FELL OFF?? )IF THEY ARE BABIES,I REALLY NEED TO KNOW WHAT KIND IS THAT CAUSE THOSE BABIES WILL GROW TO BECOME LIKE THEIR MOM... ARE THEY DANGEROUS?? 23908

Looks like you have a wolf spider and her babies, to me. They do bite and have venom. Most people handle the bites OK, although they are very painful, but a very few get extremely sick, or even die. Most of those who react badly to the bites are allergic to other poisonous spiders or have been previously bitten by a highly venomous bug. They can also make pets sick if they get bitten.

I agree with hheath, despite the appearance of the spider itself. The spiderlings on the back of the abdomen distinguish this wolf from the hobo spider it more closely resembles superficially.

ngsgts, Is there a building on that land? Or did your kids find a spider on the ground? If so, let her go, wolfs chase off more noxious insects.

Then you should not try to get rid of her and her brood. Put them back outside so they can hunt down and eat the roaches, mites, beetles, centipedes, and other critters around the tent/trailer. They will be more than happy to leave you alone, particularly since you guys probably scared her into sterility already.

She's a beauty.
Let her go, she'll leave you alone, as long as your kids leave her and her babies alone.
Lucky. We don't get many different species of spiders in Canada. Our spiders are boring. ;)
