Hi, beth911!

Long time, no see! Have you turned 18 yet? I ask that, because it has to do with your getting money.

Thanks!

Yes I am 18... its nice to talk to you again!

Have you tried to apply for a loan?

Thanks!

No I have not. My friend was talking to me about that though just a few minutes ago. I'm not really sure how all that works or anything. I need tp have a garage sale but I can't :(

Clough

Do you have enough things that you would like to sell at a garage sale? Also, why do you you think that you can't have one?

Thanks!

I have too much stuff to sell. I don't have enough room and my mom doesn't want me to have one at our house. So I don't hhave a place to have it at and even if I did I wouldn't make nearly enough money but every penny helps. I'm trying eBay but its confusing me

I'm sorry! But, I have to go now to direct a rehearsal.

I'll return later this evening. If you have a digital camera, or if not, able to borrow one, you can sell things on the Internet without having to pay for the ads. I can show you how to do that, if you would like. But, I do have to go for now.

Thanks!

Ebay isn't the only place to sell on the Internet. Besides that, it costs money to use eBay.

I'll return later...

Thanks!

I have returned now beth911, if you might be available. I know of lots of sites where you can list things for sale and how to get what you're trying to sell, excellent exposure in searches when people go looking for the kind of things that you have.

Thanks!

Hello I'm back. I sold an item on eBay but I was going to go ship it out tomorrow and I can't find it now omg I don't know what to do it is no where to be found. I have too much stuff that I am trying to sell and it is all in one big pile and I think it is somewhere with that stuff but I don't know where and I think that the person alreaddy paid for it but this stuff is way more sonfusing than it looks to be

Are these other sites going to be easier than eBay? Because eBay is just too frustrating. Omg it makes me go insane I neveer been in such a bad mood and I really hope that the other stuff isn't nearly as strreesful

Hi, beth911!

Yes, the other sites will be easier to use than eBay! Plus, they don't cost any money to use.

I'm not sure what to tell you about your eBay transaction other than for you to look everywhere you know how to in order to find your information in selling what you did.

What do you have to sell, please?

Thanks!

Clough

Are you still there, beth911?

I'm willing to work with you now about this, if you're willing and able to do that.

The sites that I can help you with posting things for sale, are pretty much foolproof and get excellent exposure.

Initially, I just need to know what it is that you'd like to sell.

Thanks!

I told you I was willing to help with the eBay junk because I know it can be complicated. But perhaps now you see why I feel the way I do about it? Wasn't as easy as it looked, huh? I sometimes get frustrated and I know what I'm doing. (eBay is also changing so many things and getting screwy that it's just no fun anymore anyway.)

Also, it does not matter whether the person already paid or not. You are now obligated to ship it. (Well, assuming they do pay for it of course.)

Whenever something goes up on eBay, you should have a place to put it to keep it safe, not only from losing it, but from getting broken, messed up, or whatever. Putting it into the box/envelope you're going to ship in is not a bad idea. And then put it somewhere the cats can't rip it apart... oh wait, that's me.

I'm still willing to help with this. So here's my suggestions of how to handle this. If they haven't paid yet, just keep looking and don't worry about the buyer for the moment. You don't have to respond to them until they pay anyway. Or at least until they contact you about payment. However, if they haven't contacted you about payment within three days, you want might to check back about what to do.

If they have paid and you have not found that thing within 24 hours, or at most 48 hours, email the buyer and be honest with them about it. And apologize profusely. Don't ever try to screw with someone trying to hide something. Tell them you will continue to look for it, and it would be a good idea to give them the option of whether they want to wait and see if you can find it, or to get a full refund and skip the sale. You can always add something like, "I know it's around somewhere and I would appreciate it if you would give me the opportunity to find your widget so that I can still ship it out. I can email you again tomorrow and let you know where things stand." (That last statement lets them know you'll keep in touch and that they won't be waiting for 10 days until you find it. People just like to know what's going on.)

If they are not in a hurry and they want it, they may be perfectly fine with waiting, and in that case, they will appreciate your honesty. If you hold up shipping without them knowing why, that will just upset them. But be prepared: they may be ticked off, want the refund, and even turn you in as a non-performing seller. You'll just have to deal with that, because like it or not, this is your responsibility. You made a contract when you put up that auction. If that happens, you won't have any place to get upset about it. Well, you can get upset, but you can't do anything about it cause they'll win. Then you accept your negative and start a new ID. :p

If you're not sure how to respond to something they do, you're welcome to ask. Despite how I act on here sometimes, I do know how to talk to my customers and I know how to handle eBay. (I know no one believes me, but I'm actually capable of being tactful and diplomatic. ;))

# 1 - eBay sucks - you will have trouble getting your money from paypal

# 2 - get a part time job and in two weeks you might be able to come up with that

# 3 - don't pay extra high interest moneys on fast loans (its high)

Resolution:

You'd better getting a second job and come up with this money - don't use your car as collateral

Well, I'll agree that eBay has screwed themselves up quite a bit. But most people should not have trouble getting their money from Paypal. There is a holding period for people with too little feedback, but they'll get it.

Hi. I'm sorry I have been really busy lately. I'm working teice as many hours and have severazl other things to get done. I have mostly clothes to sell... more clothes than anything else. But I akso have a few movies, cages, video games, books... you name it.
I was keeping all the stuff I wanted to sell together and some how even though I had the item I was supposed to ship out right on top of everything else it was no longer there and no where to be found. I'm very stressed out. I am basically working for nothing and I still have no money. I still need to come up with 625 dollars. I only have like 50 dollars to last me the next two weeks and I got paid today. And my boyfriend doesn't know about this 625 dollars I need to get and I need extra money so that he doesn't wonder what is happening to all my money.
I'm supposed to give my attorney 100 dollars tomorrow but I onbly have 50 dollars so I don't think that's going to happen and my boyfriend lives 45 minutes away and I need gas money to get to his house and back and he doesn't drive so he can't come see me or anything and I'm just so stressed out I can't stand to even think about this anymore. I'm saving up every penny I can get my hands on. I know its sad but anymore a penny is really a fortune on me and I'm so obsessed with coupons and saving my money and trying all I can not to buy anything. I really need tio get selling this stuff and get as much money as I can possibly get. I'm about ready to sell every little thing that I have. I mean everything. I don't know what else there is to do . I try looking for a better job nut I can't get one. I'm getting more hours but its still not going to be enough. And it bothers me to see the way that my parents will buy my nephew non important items like toys and what not when they could be giving that money to me so that I could use it on more important things. O I forgot to mention I need to call and make a vet, doctor, and dentist appointment VERY soon... I will never get the money for alll this.

p.s.
I may not be getting on here in a few weeks or so because I pay to have my internet. And I can't really afford it. And its only 20 dollars a month.

Listed below, are some sites on which you can advertise things. They are among the best.

http://www.hoobly.com/

DomesticSale - The Effective Free Classifieds (http://www.domesticsale.com/)

Free Classifieds Ads - Internet Advertising to Sell Online by WebLeegŪ (http://www.webclassifieds.us/)

Classifieds & Want Ads (http://www.ziply.com/)

craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums (http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites)

How you word your ads is very important. I would like to help you with that.

Thanks!

Sep 7, 2009, 09:55 PM
Thank you so much... I put something's on craigslist like a week ago or so but I had no luck what so ever. Maybe its how I woded it? Lol I don't know but I will get back with you sometime when we are both on and I have more time. I'm so money hungry its not even funny. Yesterday I found $5 I forgot that I had and I about had a heartattack because I was so happy that I found it. I have a dog kennal that I am really really wanting to sell

morgaine300
Sep 8, 2009, 02:00 PM
Might be how it was worded, including the title. It helps to include pictures if you haven't. And also consider your prices.

Depending on category and location, things can also get buried very quickly on Craigslist. So you need to re-list to get them at the top again. But be careful, you can only do one post like once every 48 hours, and unfortunately it's not a "strict" 48 hours - it's an approximate and it'll decide whether it doesn't like you anymore. In other words, better to be careful with it.

Clough
Sep 8, 2009, 02:25 PM
When we're on here at the same time, I'll be happy to help you with wording your ads, beth911!

Please do join the sites that I've listed. I know that you're already a member of craigslist.

I"m not sure where you're coming from with the 48 hour thing when using craiglist, morgaine300. Would you please explain that to me? I know that I'm limited with the number of ads that I can post with them because they've gotten so strict because of the "garbage" problems that they've been having on the site. But, I've not ever seen an hour designation as to the limiting of posting there.

Thanks!

morgaine300
Sep 8, 2009, 06:40 PM
Well, one of the little problems with Craigslist is that certain things can be very difficult to find, and some "rules" are not very explicit. Something doesn't post and you never do find out why, cause it broke some unspoken rule that you were supposed to be a mind-reader and know. It's a little weird.

I found out a lot of things just hanging out in the forums. That's how I found out the 48-hour rule isn't very specific.

I had to spend a bit of time hunting this down. It's under the FAQs, under "more frequently asked questions" and then 6 lines downs it says "how often can I post"? Notice it says "about" -- and "about" seems to be a bit arbitrary.
craigslist | about > help > faq (http://www.craigslist.org/about/help/faq#postOften)

Probably so, beth911, probably so... LOL!

If you're usually on here around 11:00 to 11:30 at night, I can try to be on around then.

If you might want to try a couple of Internet service providers that are free for a limited number of hours per month, you might want to give Juno and NetZero a try. I think that they're good for ten hours a month each for free. But, it's important to click on some of their ads, or you'll get cut off. That's what happened to me while using them.

Below, are the links for them.

Juno.com Juno Internet Service Provider of Free and High Speed Dial Up Internet Access ISP (http://account.juno.com/s/landing?action=viewProduct&productId=free)

Yes, but I am on a dial-up...

Well, even though I'm not on dial-up, this site does run slow a lot, and also gets hung up a lot. DSL doesn't mean something will be faster - just that it has the potential to be. If the site gets hung up, it's still slow.

BTW, I'm not going to make fun of you for the dial-up. I've only had DSL a couple of years, which even at that time was "behind the times." I was grandfathered into a plan (including web space and such) that I didn't want to leave, and I had trouble finding someone who could give me reliable info about their DSL service so I kept holding off.

Well... so this is way off topic. Again. :)

Okay, just a pink shirt? Please list other items and if there's anything particularly special about them that makes them outstanding in some way.

What you post here, doesn't have to be perfect. But, it's important that your ad looks really good.

I know that you're tired, and so am I... When we get to the kennel, on one of these nights, that should be one of the things that people are going to be really trying to find. But, I thought that we had better get started on some of the items that are much harder to sell so that you know how to word other ads. People can go to places to get clothing for free. But, what you list about them on the Internet needs to be distinguished in some way so that it'll stand out from the rest of similar type of ads.

If I recall correctly from a couple of years ago, you're in Ohio. Is that correct?

Thanks!

Thanks!

They do have a thing for giving people some remuneration on this site. I just haven't used it yet. Some people do have it in there accounts, though...

You don't have to pay me for anything! You're the one who needs to be saving up your money! Remember?

Now, we don't have to place the ad tonight. But, how I worded things should give you an idea as to how you can word your ads.

The idea is to beat the competition. Even if some of the keywords that I used have nothing to really do with your ad, it's a way of getting your ad noticed. One time, some people found me who were looking for goats in Iowa. They're animal rescue. Since my ad was on the same site where they were looking for goats, they decided to have their piano tuned!

It's nice to be found by accident!

Thanks!

You ask if they have any questions about the clothing and then answer them. Typically, they'll start right away with asking you questions.

You also ask them if there's anything in particular that they're looking for. It could even be something that you haven't listed in your ad that you'll be willing to sell because they are interested in buying something like it.

You try to get them to come and see the clothing at a mutually agreable time when you're not alone.

Typically, the people that will be shopping will be women. You can give them a price range for what you have to offer. I would set that at being high to leave room for ering and haggling. The point is to get them interested enough that they will definitely at least come to see what you're offering. The real negotiation for prices can happen in person.

You have anything that you want to sell, neatly arranged like it would be in a fine clothing and apparel store.

Thanks!

do those online surveys really pay you any money? or is it all a scam?

The surveys themselves for the most part are not a scam. The sites which advertise giving you list of places that do surveys, which talk like you're going to make gazillions of dollars a month if you join them - those are the scams.

In other words, there are perfectly legit marketing companies out there which do pay, or give points that can be exchanged for prizes, etc. But if I put a list of those together, and then advertise to you that you can make lots and lots of money from them, and then want you to pay me to get that list, that is the scam.

Because 1) you don't need to pay someone else to do that for you and 2) because they really just don't pay very much - it's just a tiny bit of extra pocket money, assuming you qualify for anything.

beth911, if you're going to get ahead, then you're going to need to speak with more people and make more friends. I'll bet their might even be a neighbor you could do some work for in order to make some money! You wouldn't need to be using gas for a car and could save time by doing some work for neighbors.

What do you think?

Hi, too!

Okay, let's at least work on getting the ad concerning your clothing posted on hoobly.com. If you had a vegetable garden, I was going to suggest that you give some vegetables to your neighbors as a way to get to know them better.

What I was going to ask you to do while I was gone, was for you to put together your real ad on this thread, without putting any contact information in it, following the example that I gave to you last night. You can also just make up the names of the towns and cities in your ad on this thread.

Please do, really describe the clothing items that you have to sell. If you do that, I'll be able to give you some pointers as to how to improve on the descriptions.

Would you please do that?

Thanks!

Hi, beth911!

Yes, you can get in trouble if someone paid you money for something and you didn't send it to them. Please stay away from eBay. Some people are experts at it and know all of the ins and outs of it and use it all of the time. Unless a person really knows how to use it, it's best to stay away from selling anything on it One thing that I really don't like about it, is that it costs money to use it. The sites that I suggest for you to use are totally free to use.

If you sold something on eBay, you should have contact information for the purchaser. You do, don't you? I believe that there should also be information on how to ship things that are sold on eBay on the site.

Please use the sites that I suggest to you to sell things. Okay? I don't want you to get into trouble!

I know how to get what you have to sell excellent exposure. You don't need to use eBay.

Thanks!

Yes, I realize you're not really paying any attention to me anymore... or at least you're not answering my questions and responding to anything I say. You are kind of in hot water with eBay, but I can help you deal with this in the best way possible, if you want to accept my help. It's your decision.

What happened with this? The customer paid you and you never shipped it? Did you contact them about it? You still have a transaction with this person and you need to get this dealt with.

Email your buyer and tell them you found the item and are still willing to ship it if they still want it. If you need help with the shipping end of things, I am still willing to help you with that issue. (It would really help if I knew exactly which auction it is. You're welcome to PM the item # or a link to it, if you don't want that info public. I'm an accountant -- we understand confidentiality.) You haven't responded to any of the questions I have asked you about it, but you need to clean up this eBay deal, and I'm still willing to help.

If they prefer the refund, that's easy to do. If they paid through Paypal, you can refund the entire amount through Paypal. You will get your fees back. (You won't get your eBay fees back.) If they want a refund, it will be better for you if you make the refund, rather than them filing a complaint with Paypal against you. If they sent a check or paid some other method, you have options of ways to refund them. (eBay doesn't care how you refund them.)

Theoretically, if it's still within 30 days of the sale you still have the option of shipping it. In reality, you should leave this choice to the buyer. (Shipping or refund.) The more they have a choice in the matter, the less likely they are to come down on you.

However, be aware that you have had the responsibility of this all along, once they paid you. Whether you will "get in trouble" will depend on whether the buyer turns you in or not. Apparently they have not so far?? That might be a good sign.

If you never ship the item, you can get turned in for a non-performing seller. That will be a black mark against you. In the short-term that will do you no harm and no one will see that mark. If you ship it within 30 days (I think that's right), you can't get the black mark, as long as you respond in a proper manner if they turn you in.

However, either way you can still get a negative feedback from the buyer. That is why you want to do whatever (almost) the buyer wants at this point. The more cooperative you are, the less chance they will negative you. Just be prepared that they may do it anyway. If you don't plan on doing anything else at eBay, it won't matter. (Keep in mind that if you buy on eBay, that feedback will still be there.)

The buyer could start doing funny things. You said they said your shipping charges weren't correct. I don't know if they were correct or if they're screwing with you. You're also welcome to PM me anything the buyer has said, to make sure they aren't breaking the rules either, or pulling off any shenanigans. While the vast majority of people on there are OK (really, they are), a newbie is a perfect person to take advantage of too.

I've sold on eBay, Amazon and Craigslist. eBay is a perfectly save and wonderful place if you know what you are doing. Clough is perfectly correct that you have to "know how to use it." I put different items up at different places depending on the circumstances.

I know you got ticked off that I said you shouldn't be messing with selling on there without knowing what you were doing. I'm not trying to be mean about it -- if I just wanted to be mean, I wouldn't be offering to help you. But hopefully you now see why I have that attitude about it?

morgaine300
Sep 18, 2009, 09:43 PM
Glad you got it figured out. Good idea to send a nice email to your buyer, apologizing again. You can't in the end control the other party, but you can try "help their attitude" about it.

Garage sales are easier in a lot of ways... but as a general rule, no you don't get as much. Nor probably sell as many items because it's only geared towards whoever happens to stop by. At least online you have a whole array of people looking specifically for what you've got. Since Craigslist is local, it's an easy route and sometimes produces more than garage sales - it's probably the best way to knock off the dog cage.

All you have to do is to write an ad like I suggested to you a number of posts ago using the example that I gave to you. It's perfectly okay to mess up. That's why I'm trying to help you. It's a learning process.

I learn things all the time on this site about short-comings that I have. For instance, I might post what I thought was a great answer in a forum topic area like Relationships. Then, one of the Experts of that forum topic area will come along and "fill in the gaps" that I left out.

Please don't be afraid to mess up!

Hi again, beth911!

Well, your ad is number one and two on the first page of a Google search. Please click HERE (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=Lots+of+girls+clothing+for+sale+in+Michigan+City %2C+IN.+&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi=).

But, that was by using the first sentence that you used in the ad for the search that I did. You need more keywords, sentences and phrases in your ad to broaden out the audience that you'll attract.

I'll work on that later on Saturday. Got to get to bed now...

Thanks!
