I have a Kenmore Washer Model 417.40042990. It washes, but is getting worse with time. Mostly, in order to complete a wash cycle in a reasonable amount of time, I have to manually "click" the knob to the next position on the dial within the wash cycle to continue and get it going. Sometimes it will complete the whole wash cycle but instead of the normal 40-50 minute cycle for example, it may take 5-9 hours.

Does this mean the timer is bad? Or what other reason could it be?
