Here is one by good ole Shakespeare:

''I'll make my heaven in a lady's lap''

(Henry VI part 3 - Act 3, Scene 2)

I think we know what he meant ;)

Well can anyone tell me the meaning of these ones:

" love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is winged cupid painted blind"

And

" love thyself last:cherish those hearts that hate thee;corruption wins not more than honesty"

Sadly the meaning will differ from person to person.

If this is something that you want as a tattoo then you really have to find something that has meaning to you, not someone else.

Well I was just wondering the literary meaning behind it... not like someone's personal meaning, I guess

The literary meaning can also differ from person to person, that's why I'd be weary of asking for someone else's interpretation for something as personal as a tattoo.

Either way, not a Shakespeare kind of girl, so I can't help.

Good luck. :)

Sorry, but I agree with Alt.
The 'true' meaning behind anything Shakespear put in his plays has been lost in time.

Just for an example:
hidden meaning behind missing balcony shakespear - Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS278&q=hidden+meaning+behind+missing+balcony+shakespear&aq=f&oq=&aqi=)
The balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet. Click the links and see how many different interpretations there are.

My suggestion is just to pick your favorite quote that you think is about love, and go with that...
Though, my suggestion would be against tattoos anyway, lol.
