I have a problem with my Water Heater and I think it may be a result of the Timer that is connected to it. I cannot take a shower longer than 7 minutes until the water goes cold. Same thing with washing dishes and clothes. Do you think it might be a result of the Timer connected to it. Also, if it is do you have any suggestions on how to detach the timer from the water heater,

Had a similar issue with my elec hot water heater, just not much hot water and it wa a 50 gal tank ! I didn't have a timer attached though like you do. My problem was that one of the two heating elements was bad. Might be your problem too. First ck to see if you heater has only one heating element or two. Look online at the manufacturers' website or in your owners manual or on the heater itself. If you have only one element but still get some hot water, then its probably not the one heating element, if so, after a few hours you would have no hot water. Now if you have two elements, (both are inside exposed to the water), one is near the top and one near the bottom, take one element out at a time, look for corrosion, rust, if found, replace it - cost of one element is about $15. Then go to the next element, same procedure. Finally, if you have replaced both and the problem persists with not much hot water, check out the thermostat, I simply replaced mine, cost was about $15. I doubt the timer has anything to do with it. Check the inlet tube. It runs cold water down to the bottom. That way as you draw off hot water at the top, you can use up all the hot water before getting the cold. Otherwise the incoming cold water shoots across the tank and out the outlet leaving all the hot water in the bottom.

Remove the cold water pipe and see if there is a tube inside it. Pull it out and make sure it isn't broken off. It needs to almost to the bottom.
