I have a lift station in my basement. When my furnace kicks on in the same room the smell of the gases are RANK. What can I do to eleiminate this odor. I have had different people take a look at this and all they do is pour bleach into the pit! What do I do to solve this problem, it really smells bad!:( :eek:

By "lift station" do you mean a open sump pump pit or a ejector pump system? You might try EXPEL Odor Neutralizer at: http://www.expelproducts.com/odor.html

In addition to Tom's odor neutralizer, you might try sealing both the pit and the furnace ductwork. If you can slow the odor from spreading from the pit to the basement to inside the furnace, it would keep if from spreading all over the house. Use duct tape, caulk, whether stripping, whatever to seal them both.

If the furnace has a louvered panel, leave it alone. It must be open to draw in combustion air. That should help, drawing the odor into the furnace and burning it and going out the chimney. That air should never mix with the air in the ducts. If that seems to be part of the problem, check, or have somebody the heat exchanger. It shouldn't have any cracks.

Is starting,I would suspect that bmaybe you have not a sewer gas problem but a very flamible possibly natural gas leak. Huh? Better find this one soon or the only thing standing will be the sewer pipes.

The lift station has everything to do with the above problem as cblecompte is talking about SEWER GASSES escaping a sewage ejector system, so not quite as serious as natural gas or propane gasses, but still a health hazard when concentrated... ;)
