View Full Version : Are today's smooth top ranges more convenient to clean than when they first came out?

About 15 years ago I was in the market to buy a new range and wanted a smooth-top. Fortunately, we rented one for a couple months first, and I found it terribly inconvenient that whenever anything spilled/overflowed (which always happens to my pasta pot! ), I had to turn off the burner and let it cool down (thus interrupting the cooking!), and clean up the mess immediately with a special cleaner. I know it's easier to clean the smooth top than coil burners, but it just wasn't convenient. My question is: since my messy cooking habits haven't changed in 15 years, and I'm one of those people who still prefer not to cook with gas, have smooth top ranges and their maintenance changed in 15 years? I'm looking to buy a new range again, and wonder if I should consider a smooth top this time. I'd love to hear testimonials/comments/warnings from smooth top owners. Thanks! JAGSGRAMMA
