I'm trying to find an animated children's movie I watched as a kid. I randomly had most of the movie on an old VCR tape at the end of my 'Transformers the Movie'... so I would sometimes watch it. Aaaah, nostalgia... anyway...
Here are some random vague things the movie was about:
• It must have been made somewhere between 1970 - 1990 (most likely 1980-1990)
• It was animated
• It featured a 'man' (short, plump I think and bald?) and his dog who packed up their belongings in a caravan and it followed their adventures.
• I think the dog was mostly white with a red collar.
• It featured several different locations and singing/dance acts and I think they travelled around the world?
• It is not over stylized, fairly simply drawn friendly looking characterization.
Some visual events and memories include:
• Towards the beginning of the movie the 'man' and his 'dog' are desperately trying to pack their belongings into/ontop of the caravan. For some reason I seem to recall that a 'rat couple' (literally a pair of rats who live in a small hole/door in the side of their building I think?) are watching/and or packing up their belongings as well. It is the holiday season I think.
• They set out on the road and we see a birds-eye top down view of the 'man' struggling to back the car and the caravan out into the road and start the journey.
• The caravan/car breaks down early on in the film... and breaks down later on I believe as well causing them to go seek help from someone in a large haunted castle.
• I don't think the dog talked if at all? The interaction between the man and the dog was very much like Wallace & Grommit I think.
• At some point the 'man' and his 'dog' fall out and have a mini separate adventure each before being reunited.
• A very vivid scene I remember is the 'man' going on a cave tour, only for the guide to show him the same cave over and over again... but the 'man' never realizes and happily keeps taking pictures. At the end of this I think he gets stuck on a little island and he has a song and dance sequence about missing his 'dog' (after they fell out) and I think fish/sea life are involved with the singing and dancing.
• The final clear image I have in my mind is after the 'man' and his 'dog' reunite and make up, there is a scene in a haunted castle and lots of running around with classic dracula/frankenstein parodies.
