We were gone for a week and I usually turn off the water main to the house. Came back and ran cold water, flushed toilets, etc. no problem. Tried to wash hands and no hot water, or water at all for that matter from any hot fixture in the house. I'm fairly competent in plumbing, electrical, etc. I checked the breaker, drained some water from the bottom of tank, reset the heater, checked thermostats, etc. The only problem I found is the pop-valve at the top. When I first checked it water came out. After draining some water from bottom spigot, which was warm/hot, no water would come out from top. Makes me think it's a cold water supply issue that's not letting tank fill up or a blockage somewhere. Somebody help! I'm sure this has happened before. I have polybutelene (sp) pipe in the majority of the house but have replaced some with PEX and added new PEX when I finished the basement 2 years ago to put in bathroom and wet bar.

HI I will try to help.
First you need to look below your heating tank make SURE The flame is on.
If not you need to take care of that.
Hope that helps.
A thank you gift would be great help.
Bless u

Do this close the cold side shut off valve drain some water from the bottom of the heater, open the shut off valve and listen to tanks do you hear water coming to the tank, if not then problem is with the shut off valve or the cold side nipple or the supply line, if water is coming to the tank then the problem is with you hot side nipple, do these checks and come back to us, good luck.

Hi Blesue,

First he has electric water heater not Gas, second he has no hot water coming from any where in the house, your trouble shoot is good for a gas water heater, Thanks.
