Hello, I just moved to Jetersville Va. And I found a small 2 bedroom that I rented. Landlady told me that she would have her son drop off a lease the next day to me. Well still no son with a lease. I went to her work yesterday and told her I need something saying how much rent is and who pays it to her and with her name and address and phone number and I also told her I needed it by the 23rd. When I moved in she told me that she wanted cash or money order well my dumself gave her cash and she droped off a pice of paper saying how much I gave her and did not put her last name but did put a date. All I want is a lease and don't know how to go about getting it. Can anyone help?

Hello r:
Write your landlord a letter... Tell her that when you get the lease, she'll get the rent. If that doesn't work, I'd move. You KNOW that trouble is brewing down the road, don't you? It's IMPOSSIBLE to do business with someone who has no clue HOW.

Did you ever discuss with her how much you would be paying each month? In the absence of a written lease that would be how much you owe.

Yes, 550.00 a month. I stopped by her job and told her I needed something saying who pays her rent and how much with her full name and address and phone number, she said OK and I told her to put it in my mail box if no one was at home. She came clean with an answer why I don't have a lease yet she don't know how to draw one up. So she is on the enternet trying to learn how.

Ah, you are in luck. It can be to to your advantage to draft the lease.
