I am wondering what an average cost for a plumber to come out and check a leak in a faucet is. I am afraid of being ripped off. Also for an installation of parts.. is the cost per hour to increase or stay the same?

Thank you

Call 3 plumbers and ask their travel rate and hourly rate. I recently was force to call a plumber myself and was please to see I was paying him $40 per hour with no travel. There is usually a service call fee then an hourly rate plus parts.

My rate is adjustable according to one ability to pay. I charge 61.50 per hour and I only charge travel time if I am going to be more than trirty minutes from my last job.

It is adjusted down for old ladies, veterans or any one I don't think can pay those rates.

As a rule it's a fixed rate for a service call, (Unless there's travel time involved) and as set hourly rate plus material after that. It's hard to set a dollar figure on it due to location, union or non union etc. so we don't try. Regards, nTomj

Hello Jessblum,

Every one gave you respond, but let me add mine too.
What is the problem with your faucet, where is it leaking from and what faucet you are talking about?

Kitchen/lavatory or Tub/Shower faucet, it may be an easy fix and you probably be able to do it yourself, please tell us your problem one of the experts will help you how to fix the leak before you call a plumber, Thanks.
