lost??

I am considering installing a dishwasher but do not currently have a garbage disposal. I was wondering if it was necessary to have one with a dishwasher? As of right now, I do not have an electrical hook-up for a garbage disposal.
Also, I have an outlet near where I would place the dishwasher, but of all the dishwashers I saw at other houses, I never recalled seeing on plugged in. Is the electrical supply for a dishwasher something that is done behind the scenes and if so, is it something you can do yourself or would you need an electrician? Thanks.

I can answer part of your question. You don't need a garbage disposal to have a built in dishwasher. As in all dishwashers, plates have to be cleaned off and rinsed before putting them in the dishwasher for hygeinic reasons and possibly to keep the dishwasher clean. It also helps to have super hot water in your house when you have any kind of dishwasher.

Tick is correct, you don't need a garbage disposal to have a dishwasher. Instead of the drain hose from dishwasher hooking into garbage disposal, you will have to put in a dishwasher tee in the tubular drain under sink (see pic). This more often than not, requires repiping complete tubular waste under sink to make it all fit up correctly.. As far as electrical, you can hard wire the dishwasher, but since you have an outlet handy, you can just wire in a cord to dishwasher and plug it into outlet(must be gfi protected outlet).

Thanks for the help. I am redoing the drywall where the dishwasher will be as well so if it's possible, I'd rather hardwire the dishwasher instead of having it use up an outlet space. It's it possible to run wires from the outlet, assuming it is the last outlet in the line? (I haven't checked this out yet)
